Currently Sequoia Leadership Institute (SLI) is facilitating their Fall 2020 program: UndocuWorkforce.

UndocuWorkforce is one of the Bay Area’s first leadership programs for undocumented LGBTQQ+ (and ally) youth ages 14 – 24.

UndocuWorkforce builds community through learning about topics such as gender and sexuality, diversity, and the intersectionalities of immigration, race/ethnicity, and power dynamics.

Interns hone their skills around job readiness, leadership, and emotional self-care and empowerment. They learn about current issues facing undocumented and immigrant communities and explore ways to navigate these challenges, all the while connecting with other youth who are passionate about these issues.

This internship is for youth who are motivated to learn about the connection between immigration and LGBTQ history. It is a fun and easy way to become a socially conscious individual ready to make a change in the world — all the while earning an educational scholarship!

Program facilitated in English with Spanish interpretation. Programa capacitado en inglés con interpretación al español. Interpretación de esta página será proveída próximamente.

Sequoia Leadership Institute (SLI) internships are paid and scholarship-based opportunities for LQBTQQ+ youth and allies to build community, learn about social justice, and develop leadership and job readiness skills.

Interns get to know their peers, engage in interactive discussions, work on creative projects, and take part in community building activities. They co-create a final project, such as a zine or online art gallery, expanding upon the skills that they learned throughout the internship.

We are looking for youth who are:

  • Connected to the LGBTQQ+ community
  • Connected to the undocumented/immigrant community  (for the UndocuWorkforce internship)
  • Invested in learning about social justice and LGBTQ+ hxstory
  • Motivated to acquire job readiness skills
  • Excited to work in a team

  • Able to access the internet
  • Able to attend internship every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon

The Summer 2020 cohort of Undocuworkforce packed a ton of learning and experience into 6 weeks. We delved into the intersections between queer and undocumented communities, know your rights, financial literacy, anti-white supremacy, workforce development, and many other topics.

One-Stop-Shop: A Survival Guide for the Queer and Undocumented Community digital zine cover by UWF Summer 2020

Our extraordinary interns have pushed themselves above and beyond to contribute their skills and develop their leadership.

UndocuWorkforce Summer 2020 created this zine, One-Stop-Shop: A Survival Guide for the Queer and Undocumented Community, to offer resources as well as creative works that could benefit queer and/or undocumented communities.

Their pages range from personal to informational, and they were crafted with love for these communities.

The unique strengths, creativity and experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning (LGBTQQ) youth and allies are the foundation of the Sequoia Leadership Institute

Real work experience, community building and skills for life come together to support LGBTQQ and ally youth to step up as leaders and designers of lasting social change.

Get paid or earn a scholarship to build the kind of community you want to be a part of. Internships with Sequoia Leadership Institute are all about supporting youth to make a difference in your community.

Interns join LYRIC throughout the year and each internship position includes a variety of opportunities including small projects at LYRIC, community event planning, and political advocacy.

The Sequoia Leadership Institute is much more than a work experience. Every internship includes education, support and creative opportunities that help build skills for life.

Interns learn with and from one another about life topics including individual and community health, identity, social justice, advocacy, leadership, community building, college prep, and career planning.
