Sequoia Leadership Institute is a program of LYRIC (Lavender Youth Recreation & Information Center) in San Francisco.
Current Internship Opportunity: Summer in the City 2019
Summer in the City 2019 is a paid leadership program for LGBTQQ+ and ally youth ages 14-18. Participants take charge and host their own queer dance for youth, organizing all aspects of it including marketing, logistics, and budgeting. Other topics explored during the program are: “queerness” and gender, history of the LGBTQQ+ movement, community building, and social justice-oriented topics including power, privilege, and race.

Interns are hired throughout the year and each position includes a variety of opportunities including small projects at LYRIC, community event planning, and political advocacy.

The Sequoia Leadership Institute is much more than a work experience. Every paid internship includes education, support and creative opportunities that help build skills for life.
Interns learn with and from one another about life topics including individual and community health, identity, social justice, advocacy, leadership, community building, college prep, and career planning.

Once your application has been submitted at the info session, you may be contacted for an INTERVIEW.
Interviews can be intimidating, but don’t worry, we totally understand. LYRIC staff are here to answer all your questions.
Just be your fabulous self and arrive on-time for your interview.
Please keep in mind that if you are hired, you will need to gather some documents before you start working, and LYRIC staff can help you with this process. Some of these documents may include:
- Government/School issued ID
- Work Permit (17 & under)
- Social Security Card
- Birth Certificate
- Report Card
