Sequoia Leadership Institute is a program of LYRIC (Lavender Youth Recreation & Information Center) in San Francisco.

Upcoming Fall 2019 Paid Youth Internship Opportunities:

Fall in the City 2019 (14-18 years-old)

Fall in the City is a paid leadership program for LGBTQQ+ and ally youth ages 14-18. Participants take charge and host their own queer dance for youth, organizing all aspects of it including marketing, logistics, and budgeting. Other topics explored during the program are: “queerness” and gender, history of the LGBTQQ+ movement, community building, and social justice-oriented topics including power, privilege, and race.

UndocuWorkforce Fall 2019 (14-24 years-old)

UndocuWorkforce is the Bay Area’s first paid leadership program for undocumented LGBTQQ+ and straight-ally youth ages 24 and under. UndocuWorkforce follows nationally recognized youth development best practices focusing on topics such as gender and sexuality diversity, the intersectionalities of immigration, race/ethnicity, and power dynamics, and skill building around financial, emotional, and physical self-care and empowerment.

The unique strengths, creativity and experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning (LGBTQQ) youth and allies are the foundation of the Sequoia Leadership Institute

Real work experience, community building and skills for life come together to support LGBTQQ and ally youth to step up as leaders and designers of lasting social change.

Get paid to build the kind of community you want to be a part of. Internships with Sequoia Leadership Institute are all about supporting youth to make a difference in your community.

Interns are hired throughout the year and each position includes a variety of opportunities including small projects at LYRIC, community event planning, and political advocacy.

BUILDING SKILLS FOR LIFE

The Sequoia Leadership Institute is much more than a work experience. Every paid internship includes education, support and creative opportunities that help build skills for life.

Interns learn with and from one another about life topics including individual and community health, identity, social justice, advocacy, leadership, community building, college prep, and career planning.

STEP 1 ATTEND

Attend one INFO SESSION as the first step in applying for one of our paid internships.

STEP 2 APPLY

Fill out an APPLICATION at LYRIC when you attend an info session.

STEP 3 INTERVIEW

Once your application has been submitted at the info session, you may be contacted for an INTERVIEW.

Interviews can be intimidating, but don’t worry, we totally understand. LYRIC staff are here to answer all your questions.

Just be your fabulous self and arrive on-time for your interview.

All info sessions are held at the LYRIC House (127 Collingwood St., SF, 94114) from 4:30 – 5:30 pm on the following dates:

Please keep in mind that if you are hired as a paid youth intern, you will need to gather some documents before you start working. LYRIC staff can help you with this process. Some of these documents may include:

  • Government/School issued ID
  • Work Permit (17 & under)
  • Social Security Card
  • Birth Certificate
  • Report Card
