Types of Workshops

LYRIC is willing to tailor our workshops and presentations to meet a variety of needs. Please note that in our workshops, uncomfortable or “taboo” subjects often arise and are discussed, which can be intense for some youth and adults.

During a youth-centered workshop, we ask adults to “step back” to create a safe space for youth to step forward. The role that we ask adults to play is to quietly observe, to help monitor the room and/or to keep youth focused.

Please select one or more of the presentations/workshops below or provide a detailed description of what type of workshop you need.

Introduction to LYRIC Services (20-30 minutes)

This presentation contains a brief history of LYRIC, as well as an overview of our services.

Queer 101 (30-60 minutes)

This workshop is an introduction to the vocabulary of the LGBTQQ community. Using a worksheet with a bank of words which must be matched to definitions provided, students are introduced to the language of sexual and gender identity. It is an opportunity for young folks to begin a dialogue and get basic questions answered about LGBTQQ folks and vocab.

Hate Speech and Your Health (1-2 hours)

This workshop examines how the words we use every day impact individuals and communities. Through the lens of language, we will take a closer look at how different forms of oppression relate to one another and how all forms of oppression affect us all. It is a powerful vehicle for challenging the ways in which young people relate to the world around them.
